Poem created by 500 Santa Clara Residents

Poet laureate of Santa Clara County, Nils Peterson, created the first official Santa Clara County poem that he says “…captures the heights and the depths of life in Silicon Valley.” entitled “A Family Album, Santa Clara County, 2009″. the poem was created from phrases from country residents.  Excerpt from MercuryNews.com:

“About 500 county residents submitted phrases that Peterson sculpted into an epic word collage that mashes up 100 lines from 100 authors, ages 11 to 80. In the manner of a Tweet, each line had to be short and sweet (from nine to 13 syllables long). Accessibility is the key to this collective opus.”

Tips for secure computer disposal

April 8th, 2009 Brad Fuller Posted in misc, personal tech, technology No Comments »

“10 Things” has 10 Tips for Proper Computer Disposal. My advice: don’t take tip #3 lightly.  You can destroy your hard disk drive yourself, and the result is probably just fine (I use a hammer.) But if you really want the drive completely destroyed – so data cannot be retrieved even from drive fragments – take it to a company you trust. They must have the proper shredders that eat metal. There will be nothing left but bits (metal bits, that is.)

R.I.P. Allen

I was shocked to find out the Professor Allen Strange passed away in February of this year. I studied with Allen for a couple of years at SJSU and privately at his home when he lived here in Los Gatos, CA. He was a wonderful composer who explored the limits of electronic music and taught me to do the same. I’m sorry I was not able to see him at his recent concert here in San Jose. I talked to him on the phone about it, but was unable to make the concert.

He was much too young to pass and he will be clearly missed by all of us.
